The Georgia chapter of the International Women’s Forum will honor International Women’s Day for the fourth year in a row with an outstanding program highlighting extraordinary women who are tackling some of the most difficult issues of our day.  This program provides an opportunity for leaders from around Georgia and beyond to hear from experts as to the greatest challenges facing women and their perspectives related to potential solutions.

Emcee Saleemah Abdul-Ghafur, Chief of Staff / Communications for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will guide the program.

In three major segments, we will explore:

  • The Climate Crisis – its particular devastating effect on women and girls; and a new women-led global effort to unite organizations, businesses, academics and governments to address the threat.  Featured speakers include:  Pat Mitchell, author, journalist, editorial director of TEDWomen;  Michelle Nunn, CEO of CARE USA; (others to be added)

  • How the Ground Shifted for Women in 2022:  Supreme Court rulings, to Covid, to protests in Iran and China, to crackdowns in Afghanistan and much more – what is the status of women globally and locally.  Where do we stand?  Featured speakers include: Beatrice Duncan, Policy Advisor at the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women; Staci Fox, President & CEO of the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute. (another panelist focused on US Constitutional rights to be added)

  • The Care Economy: Women are the World’s Caregivers, But Who Cares for Them?  Featured speakers include: Diana Rodriguez Franco, Secretary of Women, for the city of Bogota, Columbia, who is leading a ground-breaking, systemic effort to aid caregivers; Maria Flora, Director of the American University Care Economy project; and Dr. Jennifer Olsen, CEO of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers.

With an introduction from Paige Alexander, CEO of The Carter Center, we will also hear throughout the day from rising women leaders from around the world.

Where: This is an in-person and streaming event hosted at the headquarters of Georgia Pacific in downtown Atlanta.  Audience includes IWF-GA members, civic leaders, consuls general, academic leaders, non-profit and business leaders.
